História da Poesia Portuguesa

João Gaspar Simões

ISBN: 0000000000297

350,00€

Three fascicles, with gold-engraved editorial binding, published over four years, make up this complete history of Portuguese poetry; an impeccable collection of high graphic quality, organised by the historian, critic, and editor João Gaspar Simões and illustrated by Bernardo Marques. João Gaspar Simões had a distinguished career as a literary critic with one of the most remarkable aspects being how he was both the first biographer and the first editor (with Luís de Montalvor) of Fernando Pessoa, who he had been a friend and correspondent with. In the domain of foreign literature, he promoted and translated several Russian and English-speaking authors, among them Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, and Jane Austen, contributing to the expansion of the literary and aesthetic horizons of the Lusophone world. His contributions to national literature were no less notable and he was responsible for intense studies and revisions of the literary criticism that preceded him. Spanning the 12th to the 20th centuries, this work is a landmark reference for the study of Portuguese poetry.
